I'm back with #CookTheBook Part 2 - featuring some fun twists on a few classics. In Sarah Kieffer's 100 Cookies, find out how to turn a sugar cookie into brown sugar cookies, level up boxed-brownies to homemade brownies, a keep chocolate chip cookie bars gooey all week long (if they even last that long!).
#07: Brown Sugar Cookies
I saw molasses in the store the other day and bought it since I've never had the chance to work with it before. I used just a little spoonful of it in these cookies, which really brought out the brown sugar flavor. These cookies were a tad bit too crispy for me, but nothing a 10-second microwave bout can't fix! I'm interested in finding other cookie recipes that use molasses soon!
#19: Favorite Brownies
You've probably made chocolate chip cookies from scratch, thanks to the classic recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag... but what about brownies? I've actually never made them from scratch until now. They were simple, delicious, and what more could you ask for? Plus, Sarah's batch of homemade brownies also serves as the base of a few other upgraded brownie recipes, like the chocolate basil brownies which I'll share in a future #CookTheBook post. Spoiler alert: they're divine. If you find yourself wanting fudgier or cakier brownies, fear not, just flip the page to recipes #20 and #21 - can't wait to try both of those as well!
#33: Blondies
Now these were the perfect amount of gooey goodness. Remember those chocolate chip cookie cakes your friends would have at their birthday parties growing up? So good. These stayed gooey all week - even those dreaded edge pieces. Highly recommend a tray of these!
